Janet Westwood, BA (Hons) Photography; Making – The Future 09
Making – The Future 09 at Nottingham Trent University brings together work from recent BA and MA graduates from the School of Art and Design, plus the
School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. Look out for fashion, knitwear and textiles, ceramics, jewellery, glass, photography, graphics, multimedia, product and furniture design.
In the exhibition, we came across the work of photography graduate Janet Westwood who creates beautiful but disturbing photo shoots that combine real models with store mannequins.

Guy Fernandez, BA (Hons) Graphic Design; Tracy-Allanson Smith, MA Graphic Design & Junya Lida, BA (Hons) Fashion Design
The show combines disciplines in themes, such as the modernist approach of fashion designer Junya Lida with the framed typographic work of graphic designer Tracy-Allanson Smith.

Making – The Future 09; Ana Belen Meroño, BA (Hons) Fashion Design; Chiu Ying Yik, BA (Hons) Textile Design
The main gallery has ultra-high ceilings, allowing the work of textile designers, such as Chiu Ying Yik’s laser-cut lanterns be shown to full advantage. Ana Belen Meroño’s sci-fi collection that won FAD this year is here too, as are the bright colour-block dresses of Yanling Li. Stephen Betts’ glass vases full of swirling colour sit alongside.

Claire Goodwin, who recently won the the Crystallized Prize in the annual Hand and Lock Prize for Embroidery event, showed her delicate 3D laser-cut collars. We loved Charlotte Dey’s Dior-like white boxes showcasing her jewellery inspired by Madame Bovary, some of the pieces using reclaimed ivory and ebony piano keys.

Martha Mitchell’s quirky ceramic pieces are shown alongside her line drawings of miniature packs of sweets and chocolates.

Finally, Parveen Bazaz combined photography with real laser-cut textiles to create a strong approach to looking at textiles.
