AKTION I A.F. Vandevorst
A.F. Vandevorst unwrapped an early Christmas present to the Antwerp fashionistas this December in the form of AKTION 1: a pop-up store on design-central Volkstraat, open until end March 2010.
The concept behind AKTION 1 is to create a space where people can be totally immersed in the world of A.F. Vandevorst, from fashion, footwear and accessories to lingerie and more.

The store is designed in true A.F. Vandevorst style, playing on the red cross logo – iron-framed hospital beds, utility weighing machines and clinical screens, plus staff dressed in hospital orderly white with signature red armband.

Oversized white medical chests and plus drug cabinets become useful store furniture, while cardboard pallets are re-appropriated as cupboards. The Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent, a museum of psychiatry, supplied the designers with some of the vintage pieces.

The store opened December 17 and is open until March 31 when it will transfer to another city. Each store will take over an unoccupied space and be open for a maximum of three months. Locations chosen so far include former boutiques, laundrettes and even a bakery.

The pop-up store houses all the A.F. Vandevorst collections: A.F. Vandevorst, the footwear range Fetish, the lingerie, nightwear and legwear line Nightfall, plus Relics, accessories and bags and a new jersey basics line entitled A.Friend. In addition, the store will also include artistic collaborations between A.F. Vandevorst and chosen artists and designers.
