David Koma autumn/winter 2010/11
David Koma staged a confident and accomplished show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout on the first day of London Fashion Week. This is just the designer’s second solo show, and revealed a growing maturity in his signature decorative, glamorous style.
Just a year after showing his award winning CSM MA graduate collection, last February, and scooping the VFS Merit Award last autumn, David Koma has gathered a queue of high profile celebrity fans, including Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole. He designs for strong, confident women who belong in the spotlight, and they will surely love this further helping of high-octane glamour.

For A/W 2010/11 Koma chose a subtle palette with tonal shades of grey and black. Tight fitting, sexy body-con dresses took centre stage, complemented with slim coats in leather with fur and neat, fitted jackets in wool. This time his collection included wearable, decorative dresses for day featuring zig-zag tonal colour blocking, as well as more avant garde shapes reminiscent of cartoon super heroines.
For evening, however, David Koma is well and truly in his comfort zone – and here he once again revealed his forte for stand-out, inventive, pieces. Twisted metallic, sculptural and decorative details adorned hips and shoulders on tight fitting dresses that were often backless or featured deep plunge v necks. These pieces are for women who are strong-minded, super-confident and love to stand out from the crowd – and with thousands wanting to emulate Koma’s high-profile customers – the commercial appeal of his work is set to have a big impact. Meanwhile the queue for some of the stand-out pieces he revealed on Friday continues to grow.
