Escaping Emily, David Longshaw autumn/winter 2010/11

This February’s edition of Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s One to Watch catwalk show of four upcoming designers featured David Longshaw, Florencia Kozuch, Eudon Choi and ASKH.

Escaping Emily is David Longshaw’s debut collection at London Fashion Week. Inspired by the story of a fashion designer named Emily and her quirky relationship with an Italian puppet (read the whole story online on David’s site) – the collection features digital prints of watch and clock cogs and wheels in neutral wood tones and greys combined with brilliant turquoise and blues, accented with scarlet. Draping adds a soft asymmetric touch.

Co-ordinating bold jewellery was composed of brass industrial washers and hoops mixed with ribbon and the odd colourful gem. David studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and then moved to the Royal College of Art for his MA, graduating in 2007.

Florencia Kozuch graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design in 2009 and this new collection had a modernist meet South American feel (Florencia is Buenos Aires born), with knitwear featuring oversized fluffy loops creating short A-line tunics and mini dresses with dramatic looped collars and hem frills. An updated take on religious relic silver jewellery was in sleek contrast to the textured knits. Broad-brimmed black felt hats worked with black satin pieces trimmed with jewelled fringing.

Eudon Choi gave us military with a modern and feminised edge, with olive greens, russet-toned orange, greys and neutral tones, with pieces ranging from rugged outerwear to floaty dresses worn with peep-toe waders.

Danish designers ASKH created beautiful knitwear pieces for men and women with interesting craft details – tiers of chiffon in apricot and cream tones on a short dress, fragments of porcelain stitched onto yokes giving a fairytale elfin effect or around the neckline of a fitted perforated patterned leather coat. Felt hats were given embroidered details.
