Orla Kiely autumn/winter 2010/11

From what began as a 90s graphic explosion in accessories, has now matured into a slick, 60s clothing collection seen at Orla Kiely’s presentation show at London’s Somerset House.

From the beginning, Orla Kiely’s designs have had huge graphical influence, bringing the 60s bold textiles into the twenty first century. This season’s collection showed her great combination of colour and pattern but worn in a sophisticated manor; loose fit blouses pulled in with a masculine leather belts, clashing patterns and tones were side by side in confidence. Pebble greys and emerald greens are contrasted with bright pinks and canary yellows. This collection feels truly British, with that slightly sepia seaside feel upon the fabrics and textures.

The usual graphic imagery adopted by Kiely, has been altered with a ‘lino print’ touch, adding texture and a roughness for autumn/winter 2010. Simple shapes combined with grainy imagery bring the old and new together in an exciting, colourful way. Keeping last season’s platform shoes, with the addition of mid calf socks added style and a slight cheeky touch to the collection.

With the launch of her home collection five years ago, Orla Kiely is becoming increasingly popular, and has kept to her signature style, but with a slight twist. Her unique patterns and colour collaborations have remained just as strong as before, but the sophistication of earthy tones and prints has matured the collection and set new standards for this year’s trends.
