As part of Reykjavík DesignMarch, students from the Iceland Academy of the Arts were invited to meet some of Iceland’s most successful furniture and product designers, who have been contributing to Icelandic design since the 1950s.

The exhibition commemorated Icelandic design from the 1950s and 1960s and highlights furniture and products personally selected by the established designers, who were asked to select one piece of work that is most important to them.

The furniture on show demonstrates the values of its designer/s – and many pieces are now good investment pieces, passed down from generation to generation, exploring Iceland’s design and manufacturing heritage.

The project was a collaboration between Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavík University, The Icelandic Society of Furniture and Interior Architects and the Museum of Design and Applied Art.
