The Connected Project exhibition is one of a few events during Graphic Design Festival Breda to be held at Electron; a platform for young artistic initiatives. Graphic designers Mariëlle van Genderen, Hanneke Minten and Rob van Leijsen are such people. They form the creative collaboration Holy Grey and are the masterminds behind Connected Project #1 and #2.
It all started as an experimental poster-project about networking between graphic designers and illustrators. In two months one ‘basic’ poster was being multiplied several times, which resulted in 48 new posters. The butterfly effect, named after the American mathematician Edward Lorenz, suggests that a minute change in the atmosphere sets off a chain reaction; this formed the inspiration.
These three designers each created a poster containing a related theme and sent it to three contacts. Designers from all over the world pitched in. They improved, altered or changed the poster they had received and forwarded it to their personal network. The result, or rather a small portion of it, is shown at this exhibition.
Here, white, thin walls divide the space on the ground floor of this industrial building into a maze. Almost. Around every corner a surprise awaits from a different continent. The posters are shown as paintings, drawings, or computer designs, which are neatly hung up in frames, painted directly on the walls or tied onto a huge metal-framed carousel hanging from the ceiling. The huge variety makes this exhibition, one to visit.
Connected #2 continues until May 30 2010 at Electron.
