Paper Cut, Graphic Deign Festival Breda

The publisher Gestalten showcases the innovative use of paper by over 15 international graphic designers and artists from its recently printed book Paper Cut, at art space KOP, as part of the Graphic Design Festival Breda.

Paper Cut surveys the use of paper as a medium for 3D artwork. From the tiny and detailed to large-scale installations, from the quick to make to the painstakingly intricate. Production methods range from the traditional cutting, folding, gluing and collage to the introduction of more recent technology such as embossing and laser cutting.

The exhibition was set up by KOP curator Dennis Elbers together with Robert Klanten, editor of books such as Tangible, Paper Craft and the forthcoming Urban Interventions.

The curators explain how ‘up to now paper has been the most important material of our civilization. It has served as a medium for documenting information and ideas. Today, as we are approaching a digital era in which the role of paper will shift, paper is enjoying a renaissance among young artists and designers worldwide as an experimental material for design.’
