Lianes; Roches, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

An exhibition of new works by designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec has opened at French design gallery Galerie Kreo in Paris. The show presents a collection of hanging lights, wall shelves resembling rocks and shell-like wall lamps.

‘Our research for the gallery is about magic as much as it is about use,’ explain the Bouroullec brothers. Delicacy, sensuality and mystery emanate from this new exhibition that showcases three projects: Lianes, Conques and Roches.

Lianes covered in flesh-coloured leather, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Lianes are interconnected fibreglass lamps. They incorporate and unify all the elements of the lamp – from the long cables to the connection points and the actual lit shell. In order to make this possible, the designers have covered every single inter-related element in black or flesh coloured leather. Leather to leather adherence and natural effects that come from the topstitching passing through the joining points, make it easy to adjust the direction and the height of the light.

Conques, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Conques is a wall light that can either stand by itself because of its wireless system or interconnect with other Conques. The extremely glossy black shell reflects the light brilliantly. The mystery comes from the fact that there is a space between the wall and the actual light to give the impression of an intriguing flying object right in front of the wall.

Roches, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Roches is a collection of shelving units in eight different sizes (from 1,17m to 13,5cm long). The use of fibreglass coated with a special ultra matt paint gives the product a velvety feeling when touched. The wall fitings are totally invisible to accentuate the idea of mysterious mineral-looking elements growing on the wall.

This new range certainly has a delicate feel. The French designer duo use leather to cover electric wires, cover a set of shelves with a mineral-looking paint and make impressive mirrored conch lamps and all in search of mystery…

The Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec exhibition is open until July 22 2010 at Galerie Kreo, Paris.
