Izumi Hongo, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp

ARTS THREAD enjoys the spectacle of the Antwerp Masters show, the culmination of 4 year’s study at the prestigious Belgian institution. Sixteen designers showcased their final collection at the dockland venue Hanger 29.

Izumi Hong opened the Masters show with beautiful handpainted dyed effects on delicate dresses and some strong knits. His collection was entitled Private Paintings and gave the viewer the illusion of getting a rare glimpse into something very personal.

Johan Akesson, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp

Johan Akesson was clearly one of the most outstanding designers – his final menswear collection was called To her and his white outfits were elegant, but with the right dose of experimentation at the same time.

Judith Thomas, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp

Judith Thomas was another outstanding talent. Kind zieh dich warm an was a playful, but beautiful collection with a good sense of commerciality. Oversized bulky yarns next to delicate fabrics and hidden oversized pearl jewellery shining delicately but decisive through the tops. Childlike and grown-up at the same time; a touch of innocence meets daring on high self-made Lego heels with leather straps.

Natalie Foredeyn, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp

Natalie Fordeyn’s A drummer in a tree took tradional pattern out of proportions and played on pulled-high shoulders and puff ball skirts.
