Strong print and surface decoration came through in the graduate collections from the Arts University College Bournemouth, with a surprise element of childrenswear, where the tiny so-cute models had the audience cheering wildly.
Robyn Egan’s collection, entitled Natural Protection, is inspired by the layers of a cocoon, where the protective layers of sterile dressings nurture soft skin. Black and white pieces feature striking asymmetry and intricate petal-like layers that extend to face-framing headwear.
TwentyFiveTen is the name of Mel Austin’s collection that is inspired by human emotions. Layered organic decoration features on oversized yoke collars and swaying fringing and tassels appear. Natural tones of cream and greys work across the collection.
Emily Sharp’s Nutcracker Sweet is influenced by the Tchaikovsky ballet; its set design, characters and costume. ‘Sweet’ imagery has been translated into graphic prints for structural 3D garments in black and white.

Rachel Browne’s Simply Rare takes its influence from the threat of extinction to endangered species around the world and picks out four of these unique creatures to translate into hand-crafted digital prints. Oversize prints mix with small-scale allover prints in ‘primitive’ colours of stone, terracotta, ochre and green-grey tones.
Roxanne Newman’s Ancient Civilization looks to futuristic but feminine silhouettes using laser cutting and digital printing techniques, while Lottie McLaughlin’s collection entitled Just like Clockwork is inspired by the rusting effects on clocks with oversize clock hands and overscale chains of time.
Anna Tiesen’s childrenswear was a delight. Called Forget Me Not, the collection is inspired by Anna’s memories of travelling – exploring the mountains of Peru, the delights of France and her Danish heritage. Fresh spring greens, morning sky and rose petals influence the colour palette.
