Manchester gave us a refreshing show with a young direction, dramatic pieces plus a strong emphasis on casualwear and denim – as well as the overall winning collection at the event.
River Island Gold Award winner Rebecca Thomson showcased an ethereal light and white collection with a highly sophisticated use of sheers and detailing including lace, pleating and frillls.
Poppy Warwicker-Le Breton brought out her mushroom cloud knitted skirts that gently bounced down the catwalk; the top a fuzzy ball of sheers. Out-of-focus diffused printing in black onto felted wool mini, denim jacket and slinky jersey tops gave the collection a street edge.
Christmas paper lanterns bloomed into puffball skirts in the collection by Michael Bolton-Heaton, with tiny blooms acting as pom-poms on the end of ribbon-like strips. Futuristic white sleek first layers allowed the decorative orange and cream decorative pieces to stand out. Plastic bubbles encased tiny frilly blooms.
Rebecca Neary’s menswear focused on reworked workwear, in bright colbalt, white and sand, with a strong accent on accessories.
Fairytale dressing up came though in the collection of Emma Murphy, in soft baby pink and peach tones. Peter pan collars, lacy knit yokes and sheer layers worked together for a sweet look.
Millie Betito focused on oversized pleats that sprung out to create lantern-like silhouettes in tones of black, chestnut brown and grey.
