LDF: Designersblock, What Women Make
Ceramics, Product Design

Polyp, Colo Sink, Helene Steiner

What Woman Make brings together award–winning emerging female designers and artists from around the world and the collective came to Designersblock during London Design Festival.

Highlights include Helene Steiner from Austria. Her Colo Sink is a dishwasher in a sink – put the tray with dishes in the sink, lower the cover and then take the whole tray out when its done.

Helene’s Polyp is a laundry basket and an ornament for the wall. Her contemporary washing basket can be attached to the wall and placed alongside one another to create an aesthetically pleasing way to keep the laundry; it certainly beats the piles of clothes on my floor!

Polonez, Spanish Lace, Edyta Cieloch

Ceramicist Edyta Cieloch from Poland takes traditional Polish motifs and reworks them to create these new striking and elegant forms.

Diane Ruengsom

Diane Ruengsom from the United States was another highlight and she presents beautifully designed, affordable, sustainable and disposable plates made from sugarcane fibre. The fibre is a waste product after juice has been extracted from the stalks.

‘I wanted to bring together woman from around the world who offer not just great design, but bring outstanding thinking to their work. I looked to combine best practices and innovation with work that reflects the cultural moment from a variety of viewpoints, says What Woman Make founder Chauncey Zalkin.
