LDF: Love Me Live With Me

Love me, live with me, London Design Festival

Love Me Live With Me is a ‘Designed and Made’ showcase project for the London Design Festival. Discretely placed today along the side of the road along Redchurch Street, you could easily wander past without knowing what it was. Travelling to various venues during LDF, check the website for its current location.

After speaking with the maker of the cart, I was encouraged to interact with the many cupboards and peepholes, drawers and flaps to discover the beautifully-designed objects hidden inside. Items were given away to people who the cartholders believe would follow the instructions that ran alongside this amazing gift. Each recipient will be asked to live with the object and blog about it. They are interested in the impact that the object might have on a life, for the week is it owned by somebody.

They want to see photographs and read about the object as it moves around the country. I chose a ceramic medal and display cushion designed by Claire Baker. The cushion is meant to be embroidered by the owner and is an opportunity to make your mark, collaborate with the maker, help make it more beautiful before you pass it on to a most worthy recipient… to do the same…

As the medal’s cushion moves through different hands, it will become more embellished and return a new and improved version of itself with a character all of its own; its journey documented and its ephemeral owners acknowledged. The medal will become something to treasure (for a while), personal yet selfless, functional and beautiful. I have just started deciding who I am going to pass mine onto next week…
