LFW: Osman S/S 2011

Osman S/S 2011

Osman Yousefzada’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection revealed great modern pieces for women. Unusual and feminine tailored pieces were contrasted with fluid and floaty shapes, creating a mature, distinctive statement.

This was a clean, pared–down approach; models paraded without jewellery or accessories and so the eye was firmly focused on his precise crisp lines and sophisticated fabric mixes. Smart cottons and clean organic denim were used for day in colours of sand, terracotta, navy, black and grey. Shiny off-white patent leather pieces and trims added further interest.

Favoured shapes included figure-skimming shift dresses, neat, structured cropped tops and slim, flared trousers. Elsewhere we saw tailored knee length culottes and slim pencil skirts, all immaculately executed.

Osman’s obvious love of asymmetry and his playful approach to proportion was never allowed to get out of hand, and the resulting over-riding minimalist aesthetic possessed a truly modern and slightly futuristic feel.

The show began with quiet, wearable pieces, building up to Osman’s dramatic, and extravagantly draped silk dresses in soft apple green, blossom pink and bold citrus yellow for big occasions.

Memorable pieces included a beautiful short, floaty cream dress, and a striking yellow silk jersey column dress with train, but there was much to admire in this very impressive show.
