Preview: ARTS THREAD Call for Entry winners for Designersblock at INTERIORS UK

Garden Birds, Catherine Frere-Smith; To the North Pole, Karin Soderquist

From our Call for Entry winners, here are the first six designers (still awaiting a few confirmations) who will be at Designvillage with Designersblock from next Sunday January 22 to the 25 2012 at INTERIORS UK in Birmingham. ARTS THREAD will be at the show too – come and say hello!

Catherine Frere-Smith is a graduate of Chelsea College of Art & Design’s textile course and creates prints that span both interiors and fashion while Swedish-born Karin Soderquist, who studied Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, works across 2 and 3 D in a bright bold range of materials.

Knitwear Birds, Katy Jennings; Printed matter, Sarahjane Harrison

Royal College of Art graduate Katy Jennings brings to Birmingham her Knitwear Birds, in their FairIsle collection – ‘each ‘sweater’ was chosen on consultation with individual birds, then screen-printed and fitted for a tailored bespoke garment.’ Sarahjane Harrison, graduate of Liverpool Hope University’s Design course, uses layered and compressed newsprint, principally colourful Chinese-langauge papers, to create furniture.

Owls - Holly Wilson; David Ryan Robinson

Designersblock are keen on owls for their Designvillage this January and on show will be University of Salford gradaute David Ryan Robinson‘s Owl, as well as feathered creatures from University of Worcester graduate Holly Wilson.

Tool, Camilla Barnard

Finally, University of Brighton 3D Materials Practice BA (Hons) graduate Camilla Barnard will be joining us with her three dimensional illustrations. Camilla replicates everyday tools with wood and pencil, giving them a ‘drawn’ appearance which challenge our perception of familiar objects.
