Tomorrow night sees the FAD 10 Charity Gala Show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s London venue Freemasons’ Hall. The catwalk show is a celebration of the last ten years of FAD (Fashion Awareness Direct), dedicated to nurturing and supporting young talent in the UK. It will showcase past winning designs plus innovative new collections. ARTS THREAD looks at some highlights to watch out for.
Beatrice Newman was a 2009 FAD finalist with De Montfort University and is now a 2012 MA graduate from London College of Fashion and has her work worn by pop stars such as Alesha Dixon and Shingai Shoniwa.
Rebecca Thompson is currently studying a Fashion MA at the Royal College of Art, graduating this year and was an FAD finalist and Graduate Fashion Week Gala Award winner in 2010 with Manchester School of Art.
Vera Thordardottir, originally from Iceland, was a 2010 runner up with Istituto Marangoni, London. Her most recent collection opened the last Reykjavik Fashion Week and is soon to be featured in a new book on Icelandic Fashion Design.
Katie Pope was a runner-up in 2005 with Nottingham Trent University and is now half of London designer womenswear label Harnett Pope.
Rasa Abramaviciute won the 2010 FAD competition while a student at Middlesex University and now works full time in the Vivienne Westwood Design Team, after winning placements through FAD at Westwood and with David Koma – a FAD Competition finalist in 2005.
