Art Dubai, the leading international art fair in the Middle East kicks off this week with its sixth annual event. Held at Madinat Jumeirah, Art Dubai will feature 75 galleries from 32 countries as well as artists and curators’ residencies and workshops.
Open from 21-24 March, Art Dubai is part of the Art Week event which also includes Design Days Dubai.
The Art Dubai 2012 programme includes a presentation of unique jewelley by Cartier, tours of the Spectral Imprints exhibition, performances by Carlos Celdran and children’s workshops.
Artists including James Clar, Köken Ergun and Setu Legi have been commissioned to create exclusive, site-specific installations and performance pieces for Art Dubai. The new works have been created to explore the fabric and economy of an art fair.
The winners of this year’s Abraaj Capital Art Prize will also be at Art Dubai, unveiling their prize winning works to the public for the first time. This competition winners this year are Taysir Batniji, Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, Wael Shawky, Risham Syed, and Raed Yassin.
