With the second edition of the Who’s Next/Arts Thread Fashion Graduate Competition coming to an entry deadline of Monday May 21, and in advance of the Who’s Next show coming up this summer, we speak to jury member Rosy Biffi, co-owner and co-founder of the Biffi Spa group.
ARTS THREAD: Can you briefly describe your role in the Biffi group and the Camera Italiana Buyer Moda?
Rosy Biffi : Owner and founder, together with my sister Adele, of the Biffi Spa group, which includes two boutiques in Milan, two in Bergamo, and Banner (a store located in the fashion district of Milan). We strongly believe in, and indeed are founding partners of, the association Camera Italiana Buyer Moda (Italian Chamber of Fashion Buyers).
AT: Why do you regularly visit Who’s Next Paris?
RB: I consider it a must for my profession, as the event puts forward and develops interesting new concepts.
AT: How do you think artsthread.com can benefit new designers?
RB: It has the potential to become a powerful tool and a regular talent scouting arena if promoted with leading sector buyers.
AT: What do you expect to discover from the competition?
RB: Certainly innovation and concreteness, at a time that calls for such characteristics.
AT: What is your personal involvement with young designers, students and new graduates?
RB: We have always supported, and sometimes even scouted new talents. We recently dedicated the Vogue Fashion’s Night to the winners of Who Is On Next and Altaroma. Furthermore, during Milan’s latest Fashion Week we offered our locations in Corso Genova and Banner to emerging talents.
Furthermore, we always serve on the jury of talent competitions. We took part in the latest edition of the Dutch Fashion Awards and provided the winner a showroom in Milan for two years, free of charge. And the same goes for the latest edition of Next Generation, a competition promoted by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (National Chamber of Italian Fashion).
AT: And your top fashion tip to look out for at WSA in June?
RB: I’m not on the lookout for a garment, but rather for a trend.
The Who’s Next/Arts Thread Fashion Graduate Competition is now open, with a deadline of May 21 for applications.
