Naomi Campbell, SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution
SHOWstudio at Somerset House in London is the creative child of the
king of fashion photography Nick Knight.
Upon entering the exhibition you are faced by a room of mirrors. Giving the feeling that your own image in caving in on you this reflects the bare-all attitude of the fashion world. After bypassing the 360 degree view of yourself you are confronted by three 10ft statues of Naomi Campbell in the style of Andy Warhol’s Elvis Presley screen prints. The Naomi feature allows those at the exhibition to scrawl their thoughts and opinions onto the image of one of the world’s most famous supermodels through two touch screen consoles.

Other exhibits such as four phone calls with answering machine messages left by Karen Elson, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson and Irina Lazereanu, dresses made entirely from cake wrappers and a white case filled with glass tiles which have been kissed with lipstick by the worlds most famous fashion models all give a glimpse into the secret world of fashion.

Amongst other features on show is a video presentation from designer Gareth Pugh. Shown crouching on all fours on a rotating platform dressed up as a human poodle Iggy Pop’s “I wana be your dog” blares through the headphones. A red and white rosette is pinned ever so fashionable to Pugh’s poodle chest which he proudly pushes forward. The next clip shows Pugh making attempting to build a seven storey high house of cards, which he completes on the third attempt, only for it to fall down as he stands back to admire it.

These photo shoots allow exhibition viewers the opportunity to see professionals from the fashion industry at work and catch a glimpse into their often mysterious world.
SHOWstudio continues at Somerset House until December 20 2009.
