ARTS THREAD looks at the work of designers exhibiting at One Year On, a showcase for upcoming talent from previous New Designer graduates. This week’s selection includes textiles, product design, illustration, ceramics and much more.
The Ceramics & Glass graduates at London’s Royal College of Art enjoyed the benefit of the natural light-filled main gallery space at the college this year, which gave added lustre to a sparkling show.

Earning money by selling your own work is an attractive prospect, but it is easy to become attached to some pieces after working on them for many hours. Price lists accompanied students’ work at the RMIT Unearth Ceramics graduate show at Skepsi gallery on Swanston St 17-28th November and were part of the process that encouraged students to sell their work and ultimately detach from it.

Melted Lights, Marie Retpen; Kaspa ceiling lights, Ilsa Parry
Marie Retpen is from Denmark and specialises in blown glass. Marie graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2008 and for this autumn’s show brought her new Melted Lights. Due to the technique applied, each light is unique in the way the folds form at the rim of the light. The light comes in black, blue or can be coloured to order.
