New this year to Clerkenwell Design Week was The House of Detention. Set in a former Victorian prison, this pop-up exhibition showcased some exciting contemporary design. Featuring a whole host of different design talent, the exhibition takes you on a journey through the passages of the basement to each individual designer. When you first enter it is hard to decide which ‘cell’ to enter first. The variety of design really stood out, from lighting and seating through to illustration and ceramics.

Clerkenwell Design Week Presents Lulu Guinness ‘Be A Pin Up’

At this years CDW, British designer Lulu Guinness showcases her ‘Be a Pin Up’ installation. This one off commission is housed right under the iconic Clerkenwell Gate for the duration of the CDW festival.Designed by famous handbag designer Lulu Guinness, her inspiration came from the AW11/12 collections and to accompany the installation she has also created a Clerkenwell Lips Clutch. With photographers on site to take pictures of the impressions made on the installation, the prize for the best impression wins the clutch!!

Sitting predominantly in the centre of St John Square is the Emotion Maker, a giant inflatable structure with a purpose brought to you by design duo Plastique Fantastique. Featuring as one of the Clerkenwell Design Week Projects, the creative structure works as a public sphere that manipulates sound to create the emotion of a classical concert.
