The Royal Academy of Art The Hague brought a performance element to Ventura Lambrate in Milan with its Live Factory Make My Day – a celebration of work-in-progress from students and recent graduates. ARTS THREAD went along to see.

Silesian Design Cluster bring us design from a region that now can export more than the coal it was so famous for, with a network of designers, architects, universities and research centres. Step forward into Milan – La Dolce Silesia.

A workshop in Iceland with designer Brynjar Sigurðarson was the starting point for a series of pieces using bleached whale bone created by Product Design Master students of ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne – now on show at Spazio Orso 16 for Milan Design Week.

Designersblock & ARTS THREAD are currently at the The Magazzini in Milan’s trendy Tortona district. Walk through a forest of stylised trees created by Lost Heritage festooned with work from new talents plucked from ARTS THREAD’s creative portfolios.

It’s the fourth year that Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD), Prague comes to Milan. This time the students and graduates were chosen by the art and design curator Tereza Bruthansová and AAAD’s Porcelain and Ceramics Studio head, Maxim Velčovský.

HKU, Utrecht School of the Arts comes to Milan with work from its multi-disciplinary HKU Design course for established designers who are forging new connections and exploring new applications. We can’t wait to see the works in person!

At the recent Design Days Dubai, the Carwan Gallery presented the Illusion Pearl live performance with the designer Khalid Shafar, including the opening of living oysters and the demonstration of craft techniques for working cultured pearls.

Laura-Jane Aktinson, 2012 graduate from the Embroidery BA (Hons) course at Manchester School of Art will be joining us at the Magazzini in Milan. A creative hub in Tortona, running April 09-13, the Designersblock & Arts Thread section will feature work from new talents curated from Arts Thread’s creative portfolios.
