Innovation Design Engineering/ Chenwei Wang, My Family Signature

Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) is a joint product design, experimentation and enterprise course run in unison at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. A highly complex and demanding course, IDE students require a vast knowledge of industrial design, manufacturing, mechanical engineering and product sustainability. This year, the course produced two Helen Hamlyn award winners – Patrick Hyland and Samuel Jewell – both of which were given the Age UK Award for Inclusive Design.

This edition runs from November 20 to December 05 2010 and is organised by the Cité du Design and the Saint Étienne Higher School of Art and Design. One of the key exhibitions on show is Demain, c’est aujourd’hui #3, dedicated to how we will live in the future.

ARTS THREAD takes a look at MA design shows at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD). Two designers who have recently completed their MA in Design and Visualisation are Roshini Ashnok Kumar and Fabien Rolland. The course has given them the opportunity to develop their visualisation skills whilst exploring the various stages of the design process, relating to their particular specialism. Above Roshini demonstrates these skills with her visuals presenting her ‘eco’ packaging of tomorrow for the MacBook Pro.
