Alter Nature: We Can, Z33, Hasselt, Belgium


Alter Nature: We Can; Shiki 1, Azuma Makoto

Alter Nature is a series of four exhibitions, a symposium and other events, held in Hasselt Belgium on the theme of bioscience and art. Working across galleries Z33 and CIAP, plus the Hasselt Fashion Museum.

The exhibition shows that although mankind has been changing nature for its own ends since the dawn of time, in the last decade developments in bioscience and biotechnology have given this evolution new momentum. Z33 hosts two of the exhibitions, starting with Alter Nature: We Can, curated by Karen Verschooren which looks the manipulation of fauna and flora in nature through the work of over twenty international artists.

The Shed, Design Event

As part of Design Event 2010, The Shed opened up its doors to its 36 creative businesses, wanting to encourage members of the general public, other fellow designers and organisations to engage and discover the talent based with this incubation project. Presenting ‘Lost In Translation’ a small exhibition by 12 of The Shed’s businesses, looking at the absences and silences of conversation, stories and literal and literary approaches to design across a their range of disciplines including installation, ceramics, film and sculpture.

La Publicité au secours des grandes causes – Advertising coming to the help of worthy causes – at Paris’s Les Arts Décoratifs shows a major collection of posters and films made for French NGOs and institutions to get across their messages.

The 300 posters and films in this exhibition show how how advertising has helped raise and shape public awareness, from the late 60s through to today. The exhibition covers six major themes: human rights, humanitarian aid, ecology, health, social exclusion and social aid, education and civic awareness.
